A rewire is the least common outcome, not the default
Most unsatisfactory reports lead to targeted work rather than a rewire. Where a rewire is genuinely the answer, the report usually shows it in the insulation resistance readings rather than in the age of the property.

What actually points to a rewire
- Insulation resistance readings that are poor across the installation rather than on one circuit
- Cable types that have degraded rather than simply aged
- An installation extended so many times that no coherent circuit arrangement remains
- Findings that repeat on every circuit, which makes circuit-by-circuit repair uneconomic rather than impossible
Full and partial are both real options
A partial rewire addresses the circuits that need it and leaves sound ones alone. It is common, it is legitimate, and it should be recorded properly so the next inspector knows what is new and what is not.
The argument for doing everything at once is disruption rather than compliance. Rewiring is the most invasive electrical work a house sees.
Age on its own is not a reason
An installation is reported against the current standard, not required to have been built to it. Old cable that tests well is old cable that tests well.
If a quote for a rewire rests on the year the house was built rather than on readings in a report, ask which readings prompted it.
Who does the work
Every electrician clears six checks
We do not carry out the inspection. We put you in touch with an electrician who does. An EICR is worth what the person signing it is worth, so these checks are the product. Each is verified against the issuing body's own register, not taken from a logo.
Competent to inspect and test
Inspection and testing carries its own qualification. A good installer is not automatically the right person to sign a report.

Checked on the scheme's own public register, not a badge on a website.
Public liability insurance, in date
We check the certificate and the expiry date, not just that one exists. A lapsed policy is the most common reason to turn someone away.
Reports that carry their schedule
We look at an electrician's reports before sending them a job. The schedule of results is the part worth checking.
Working to the current standard
BS 7671 as currently amended. The 2026 amendment changed what makes a report unsatisfactory, and not everyone has caught up.
A public record worth reading
We read what previous customers wrote instead of counting stars. We publish no figure of our own, because we have none.

Does an unsatisfactory EICR mean I need a rewire?
Rarely. Most unsatisfactory reports lead to specific remedial work. A rewire is the answer where findings repeat across the whole installation.
How old does wiring have to be before it needs replacing?
There is no age at which wiring must be replaced. Condition is what is assessed, and it is measured rather than estimated from a date.
Can a rewire be done in stages?
Yes. Partial rewires are common and legitimate. What matters is that the work is certified and recorded so the installation's history stays legible.
